Apartment Review for Hunt Club Apartments - Austin, TX

While the rent is affordable and the amenities on the property are nice, I CAN NOT recommend these apartments as suitable living in any way! The health risk is not worth it! Just one week after my husband moved in he got a severe upper respiratory infection,and the child we care for was displaying severe allergy symptoms. While my husband's infection cleared up the child remained sick the entire time. The illness continued even after vacating the apartment, and she is still sick today! Upon discovering thick black mold in ALL the vents, a contractor was sent out by Hunt Club management to clean the ducts. This was done in such a way that mold was blown all over the apartment, and then began growing on the windows and the molding around the windows. The office staff seemed very concerned in the beginning, and they even agreed to move us to another apartment. We did a mold test on the new unit, and that teted positive for an abundance of mold too. While management did uphold their end of the lease by letting us off the contract, we still found ourselves at a huge financial loss, but most importantly the health issues are still with us, and the child is STILL sick! Management eventually denied ever having seen mold in the apartment, and they said it is mildew. In any case, mildew is still a form of mold, but what we discovered was in fact black mold! Please, if you love your family, beware of the mold situation, and do not risk your health for lower rent. Toxic mold poisoning is not treatable, and in some cases causes death! Also be advised, I have noticed other reviews on apartmentratings.com that mention the mold issue, so we're not the only ones who were affected by it. The apartment number is 2122 and the apartment directly above it on the 3rd floor was the other unit that tested positive for mold. Another issue we had was cigarette odor coming up into our unit from the heavy smokers that live below. Every day our apartment would reek like an ashtray, and we don't smoke. The odor was also causing allergic reaction as we are all allergic to cigarette smoke.
