Apartment Review for Amli At Monterey Oaks - Austin, TX

I lived in this place when it was new. The floorplan was nice and it looked good. Unfortunately, you can hear EVERYTHING your neighbors do. The floors are the thinnest I've ever experienced. You get used to knowing that your neighbor gets up at 3AM to take a leak - you hear the footsteps and you hear the toilet. You even hear the toilet from the downstairs neighbor. I could even hear the upstairs neighbors dog running around the apartment (and it wasn't a great dane either) Parking is in short supply though and the spaces are narrow. And when you move out, expect them to keep your security deposit and charge you an unreasonable amount of damages. There was one small cigarette burn in my carpet when I moved out - I expected them to ding me for that, but they said they had to replace the entire carpet (living room, dining room, bedroom, closet) because of one small cigarette burn - $530). Aside from that one small cigarette burn, the carpet was still immaculate. I wrote them a letter stating that I was willing to pay reasonable damages, but what they were demanding was ridiculous. Instead of responding to me, they immediately sold my account to a debt collector (for less than I would have been willing to settle, I'm sure - I would have paid half what they asked without question or even more with some protest). If I had to do it over again, I would have demanded they show me receipts for replacing the carpet in the entire apartment because there's no way a rational person would have replaced 900 square feet of carpet over one small blemish smaller than the size of a pencil eraser.
